Goodbye Buckfinder

I just found out from a friend of mine that Buckfinder, a wonderful little bay colt I took care of for the Team Nordin Stable in the late eighties, died a few days ago. I don't know the details, but my friend, Annette Collins, said that he apparently died of colic. I held back the tears until I was on my way home from my nanny job, and cried all the way home.

He had been so special to me, reminding me in so many ways of my other special friend--Baltic Speed--in that he was so gentle, smart and tried his best. He was the kind of horse that I could curl up with in his straw-filled stall and take a nap without feeling the least bit of fear. I could walk my filly, Shining Star, on my left side and Buck on the right side, both horses content and enjoying the moment.

Buckfinder loved all kinds of treats, including watermelon, blueberry muffins, and his favorite--strawberry ice cream bars right from the window of the ice cream truck that used to come daily to Pompano Park.

If I happened to be cooling him out when the ice cream truck came, he would fixate on that truck, and quietly walk me right to it and stick his head in the window, which always gave the ice cream lady a good laugh.

He was a joy to be around, and when he went to Denmark to be a breeding stallion, I, unfortunately, was never able to go and see him again. But he was always in my thoughts, and I have him on videotape, because a Canadian TV crew came down to do a special on our sport and the Thoroughbred sport, and luckily they sent me a tape.

Find my good dog, Timber, up there in Heaven, Buck. You remember him. He used to give you a slurp on the muzzle every now and then. You two have fun until I can get up there to see you both again. I bet they even have an ice cream truck with strawberry ice cream bars.

Japp nu har jag varit i kontakt med min gamla tränare så nu blir det privat lektioner med forest. Får ju en del pengar över när de går på sommarbete. Har dock ett problem, transport. Nu skulle man ha eget släp men men. Hittade en som hyr ut sitt släp...

Fy va hemskt det va med stallbranden i kungsbacka. Två av forest fd träningskompisar dog i branden. ush va hemskt att va deras ägare. Jag hade aldrig klarat av det men vad har man för val. Hoppas att hästarna dog snabbt av röken. Kan tänka vilken pan...

Idag flyttade jag o forest till det nya stallet. Det börja med att jag inte kunde lasta honom vilket kom som en liten chock eftersom jag körde och lastade han själv för en månad sen när vi va o provade ut sadel. Men egentligen är det väl inte så kons...
